The open enrollment lottery period for the upcoming academic year at Heritage Community Charter School (HCCS) has officially closed. We are grateful for the overwhelming interest and enthusiasm from families eager to join our community.

How does the application, lottery and registration process work?
Idaho law requires that an equitable selection process, such as a lottery, be held to determine who will be enrolled if the number of applicants exceeds the number of open seats. Lottery Enrollment Applications are accepted during an open application period each winter. Filling out and submitting an application does not guarantee a spot for your child to register for the following school year.
Enrollment for each school year will consist of the following: Grades K-8 will have two classes each of 30 students, 60 total students per grade and a maximum of 540 students for the school. If we reach capacity during the application period in any given grade, we are required by state law to conduct a lottery. The lottery is conducted by a non-biased party. All applicant names will be drawn from the lottery to determine registration or placement on the waiting list. Applications received after the open application period will be placed on the waiting list in the order the application was received.
Attendance at the lottery is optional as families will be notified through regular postal mail if their child is offered the opportunity to attend HCCS or if their child was placed on the waiting list. The lottery for each upcoming school year is held in the spring. Once students are in enrolled at HCCS, they are not required to go through the lottery process again. At the end of each year, parents are required to fill out a re-enrollment form to ensure a guaranteed spot for the following school year. Parents or guardians of students who are not offered the opportunity to attend Heritage Community Charter School during the current school year must submit a new application for the new school year during the open enrollment period in order to be included in the lottery. Waiting lists are not carried over from year to year.
HCCS’s Process for Enrollment:
Intent to register letters must be signed by each student’s parent or guardian and returned to Heritage Community Charter School by the date specified in the letter. If no response is received within 7 days, the available seat will be offered to the next student on the waiting list. The lottery, by state law, has the following preferences:

First, to pupils returning to HCCS in the second or any subsequent year of operation. Returning students are automatically enrolled in the appropriate grade and do not need to be selected by a lottery.

Second, to children of founders and full-time employees provided that this admission preference shall be limited to not more than ten percent (10%) of the capacity of HCCS.

Third, to siblings of pupils already enrolled in HCCS.

Fourth, to prospective students residing in the primary attendance area of HCCS.

Fifth, to prospective students residing outside the primary attendance area of HCCS.
